CncSimulator FAQ:
Q: I get "Can't run the token
interpreter" when I try to do turning simulation. What to do?
A: Go to the download page and
download the new turning interpreter or the latest version of the
CncSimulator. Sorry for taking so long time to solve this issue, but we have
to put priority to paying customers.
Q: I can't go in to the
settings, they are all grayed.
A: Click on "Login" and type
login in the password dialog. This opens the settings.
Q: When I get a full screen
simulator and don't know how to return to normal mode.
A: Press the escape button to
return to normal mode.
Q: Are you using spyware or similar and what's the deal with
the "petrol file"? Can it harm my computer?
A: There is nothing in the the petrol file that can harm
your system. It is just a way for us to be able to offer the CncSimulator
for free. The file just stores information about dates because we want the
users to come back to our site a few times a year so that we can keep the
site and the project alive. Feel free to ask other users if they got any
problem with the file or with the CncSimulator program. There is no hidden
spyware or similar in our software. And will never be.
Q: I have changed some settings but when I start the
CncSimulator next time the settings are back to default, why?
A: From the help file: "Important: Your settings will not be saved
automatically. You need to go to ”Save Machine Settings” under the file menu,
this saves the communication parameters, settings for interpreter files,
folders etc. If not, the settings will be restored to the default settings
when you start the CncSimulator next time. To save your settings use “Save
Machine Settings” and name the file after the machine the settings are made
for. If you have common settings for all machines or just one machine you
should save the settings under the name “cnc”. This is the default file name
of the machine settings file and it will be automatically loaded when the
program starts. Also note that this file must be saved in the program folder
of the CncSimulator. If you give your machine file settings file another
name, like “mymachine”, you will have to go to File – Load Machine Settings
and select the file mymachine to load your settings. If you have several
machines/ controllers you can create machine settings for each one and give
them names that will be easy to remember. These can also be placed in
different folders along with CNC code etc."
Q: When I try to simulate a program for my machine with the controller XYZ
the simulation does not look correct or gives an error. Why?
A: As default the CncSimulator uses a standard ISO interpreter, this means
that it only understand CncSimulator Standard ISO codes and not machine
specific code. Try to ask for your controller in the
user forum
to see if there is someone who has developed a interpreter for your
controller, you may also consider developing your own if you have
programming experience. See the
developers page.
As a final option, you can ask the staff at cncsimulator.com to develop one
for you for a fee. The email address is:
staff@cncsimulator.com
Q: What if I do not want to download the petrol file every third month?
A: This is the only thing we ask you for as a user of the Free CncSimulator.
Today there is now option to get rid of this small limitation. If the demand
becomes high for a non petrol version we may consider a non free version
without the petrol file.
Q: Why the petrol file if the program is free?
A: We consider this a good way to make the users come to our site regularly.
You get free software and we get visitors and a possibility to show our site
and products.
Q: I have found a bug, will you fix it?
A: Yes, mail all bug reports and suggestions to staff@cncsimulator.com and
we will consider it when we plan for the next version.
Q: I mailed you but have not received any answer yet, why?
A: We can not promise to answer any mail because we have to give priority to
our paying customers. What we can promise is to read all emails and take
them in consideration when we plan new versions of the CncSimulator. If you
have a question that is not answered by this FAQ or the help files/ pages
you can post them in the message board where other users can help you. (We
also answer some of the questions posted there)
Q: I am trying to communicate with my cnc machine from the CncSimulator, but
the transfer fails, why?
A: You need a special designed serial cable to communicate with your
controller. See the help file for the communication for more information.
You may also have to consult your machine manual in order to find the wiring
diagram of a communication cable. If you lack experience of making serial
cables for RS232 communication we suggest that you consult a technician or
call the machine dealer for help.

Question:
I have downloaded and installed the petrol file but
when I start the CncSimulator
I get a message saying that I should download petrol again.
Answer 1:
(If you run Windows ME and CncSimulator version 4.3b, also
see answer 2)
The most common reason for this is that the user has not saved the petrol
file to the CncSimulator folder before restarting it. If you get the
download petrol dialog you must *always* download a new petrol file even if
you did so five minutes ago. The dialog makes all earlier petrol files
obsolete.
Answer 2:
There is a bug in version 4.3 that can cause problems on computers with
Windows ME. If you did a correct installation according to
the answer 1 and still get the download petrol dialog,
follow these steps:
Uninstall the CncSimulator 4.3b.
Download the CncSimulator 4.31b (or later).
Install the CncSimulator, download new petrol at the dialog and install it.
Question:
I have downloaded and installed the CncSimulator on several computers and I
tried to use the petrol file on all of them. But it just works on one. Why?
Answer:
You can only use the petrol file on the system where you got the download
petrol dialog. You need to do the same for each computer (that
you want to use the CncSimulator on).
If you intend to use the CncSimulator on a larger scale and if you
want to get a petrol file free version contact the
cncsimulator.com staff
staff@cncsimulator.com.
